A Barbera d’Alba from the renowned Bussia parcel

This Barbera d'Alba from Fenocchio needs a few years in the cellar to flourish and express its beauty. An excellent value given the finesse of the wine and the low yields of the vineyard. When young, the wine is robust and muscular and exhibits mainly deep fruit flavours. Over time, this Barbera softens and reveals all its finesse and complexity. The grapes are grown in the Bussia area near the village of Monforte d'Alba at 300 metres above sea level. The harvest takes place in October, and the wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts. It then ages six months in Slovenian oak barrels and a further year in bottle before being released.

Case size

Dark garnet color with purple highlights. The nose is intense and has a rich bouquet of blackberry, cassis, plum and vanilla. On the palate the wine is elegant and balanced with silky tannins. It will gain in complexity with age. Very fruity in its youth, but other flavours such as tobacco and balsamic will emerge with age. Elegant black fruit on the finish. 

White or red meat in sauce. Pasta with truffles or mushrooms. 

Clay and volcanic tuff with blue marl

Supervised control vineyard practices. Green harvest.  Southwestern exposure at 500 metres above sea level. Vines 65 years old on average

Spontaneous fermentation at low temperature in stainless tanks. Ten days of contact with the skins of the grapes. Matured six months in premium quality Slovenian casks and one year in the bottle

Wine lovers who appreciate traditional Barolos rather than modern ones will certainly be delighted by the wines of Giacomo Fenocchio. The Fenocchio family has been growing grapes and makes wine fine wines from grapes carefully grown in their vineyards on the slopes of Barolo for five generations. The family owns vineyards in the best crus of the region, including Cannubi, Villero and Bussia. They stay true to traditional know-how and expertise and have made very few changes in their winemaking style over the years as they chooses to let nature dictate the pace.
